Prevent Freezing Pipes

Steps to prevent pipes freezing

  • Open under-sink cabinets. This allows warm air to circulate and keep them warm.
  • Let your faucets drip slowly. This can help reduce freezing.
  • Insulate exposed pipes. Piping insulation, rags, or bubble wrap will all help.

Items to have on hand in case of an emergency

  • Cell phone, portable charger, and extra batteries
  • Items to stay warm such as extra hats, coats, mittens, and blankets
  • Battery-powered radio with extra batteries
  • Flashlight with extra batteries
  • Water and snack food
  • First aid kit with any necessary medications and a pocket knife

If a pipe freezes and breaks

  • Turn off the water in the home to prevent additional damage.
  • Contact your homeowners insurance provider. Your insurance carrier can open a claim, and provide access to water mitigation services and emergency plumbing repair contractors.

If, after assessing any damage via your homeowners/flood insurance company, you believe that filing a warranty claim is appropriate, contact the warranty department.
